The Market On Friday

Good morning. It is 8 degrees and incredibly sunny here in Upstate NY. The super cold continues but the weather logos promise a marginal rise in the temperature over the weekend. 35 degrees will seem like t-shirt weather given this deep long extended frigid slog. The weekend is here. Right now we are nursing our dog who had elbow dysplasia surgery on Wednesday. The dog has to wear one of those large head cones to keep her from gnawing on her elbow incision stitches. She has to endure this indignity for two weeks before the stitches come out. Well as they, it's always something and this year seems to be the need for surgery, first me two months ago and now the dog.

At 8:30 a.m. ET futures are slightly lower and the price of oil per barrel is slightly lower too. The market is poised to open slightly lower except...

This just in from CNN - "U.S. economy grew at 2.4% annual rate in last three months of 2013, down from prior estimate." This could be not so great news and reflect on the opening. All I can say is this will flesh out this morning as the number is parsed and digested.

CNN: Stocks: Can S&P push on to new highs?
...at 9:55 a.m. ET, the University of Michigan will release its February consumer sentiment index.

...investors were cheered by Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen's testimony before the Senate Banking Committee .
