The fact that Obama must somehow justify the closing of Gitmo is disturbing to say the least.
The best scenario would be an immediate closing to the base therefor removing it from the table for once and for all.
As Obama speaks, Cheney will be reliving his neocon bravado days as he addresses the American Enterprise Institute explaining why Obama is not a right wing radical extremist more in line with his bizarre neocon agenda. The fact that Cheney gets multi-mentions in the media these days is disturbing.
He is still off the chart.
CNN: Obama to lay framework for closing Gitmo
Former Vice President Dick Cheney, one of the most outspoken critics of Obama's policies, is slated to give an opposing argument Thursday morning. Cheney has charged that Obama's national security decisions have left the United States more vulnerable to attack.

The BIG difference between the Dems. and GOP out of power is how the GOP still acts like they won and the Press acts like they won. The Dems even when they win act as if they lost. I guess they don't want to offend their Corp. backers , who are all Repubs. ( their real bosses) So maybe the GOP still really rules , just now they have to kick back a few crumbs to the Dems to do their bidding. As for the rest of us losers that vote the Dems. in , they fig. were to dumb to get it. Wrong. But , they also fig. even if we do, what can we do about it?
Let's see where we are in about two years. Obama has only been in 4 months. He's definitely had a beneficial impact. He's bright and articulate and very capable. They will do their damnedest to knock him around which is to be expected. The trouble with the Republicans is that they have no one who is comparable to Obama, not even close. Cheney can yap in front of the A.E.I. all he wants, its still the neocons and they are as popular as cancer.
I'm not so sure. If he's to get anything meaningful done he has to do it quick. The GOP will come back alive quickly and it has lots of $$ and media support always. I think his personality counts for maybe 40% , without the party behind him though he can't get anything done. Clinton was really a GOP Pres. for the most part because he FAILED to do anything meaningful those first two yrs. and lost Congress the remaining 6 yrs. H also, found out just how the GOP operates at the end didn't he? They're a bunch of lying scum and that's the better ones. The Dem party is now filled with ex-GOP losers in the battle with their right wing so it's really partially GOP lite. Obama's problem is his own party not the GOP.
