Yahoo: AP Economic Stress index: Measuring financial strain by county
Checking out the stress index map linked above, one can see the areas of the country most heavily affected by the recession.
One can easily see, Alaska, California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Idaho out west are in it pretty deep. In the Great Lake areas Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana are bad. Down South its North and South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
We are talking about areas of the country where unemployment is nearing 30%. Now that's not a recession, that's a depression.

My county has over 11% Unemployment. It's actually much higher. Our Casino based economy is failing badly. Fewer visitors and they aren't spending as much when they do visit.
I have to believe the figures are skewered to make the government look better. People go off Unemployment benefits because they ran out, and now they are out in the invisible world where they don't exist. Plus tons of people work jobs that don't pay any benefits at all like unemployment insurance or anything. They never existed in the first place now they are totally invisible.
Yes, "the invisible" ones are out here by the millions aren't they? I 've been among them more then a few times. It's funny though how all the rest of the population just makes as if this can't happen to them. Unless, your wealthy or a tenured or civil service protected Gov't employee you have no idea how close to this no-man's land you are. Many are just a few paychecks away. Once in this place the script goes like this. No complaining here , your in this place because it's your fault, period. Don't expect any help or sympathy. Oh, have a nice day :).
