Happy New Year 2009

2008 is behind us. We are ripping are way through the "0"s.

I wish everyone an excellent New Year complete with prosperity and personal growth.

I think the top two stories were the election of Obama and "is" the economic meltdown. 2.7 million jobs lost is huge and then we add to that foreclosures and holdings devaluation. Its an unprecedented disaster with deflation threatening to recreate a new depression era.

The amazing thing is that all this has masked the Iraq war/occupation and the continued de-evolution of the right.

I don't know about you but throwing Sarah Palin in our faces was jaw dropping.

I like Lawrence Wilkerson's description of Bush and Palin as being equally incurious and issue ignorant while simultaneously having not the least bit of hesitation or qualms about these fundamental shortcomings. These people are the worst political candidates, positive - negatives. Positive about campaigning and winning but devoid of any substance on the issues. This is the danger of the MSM because they easily present quality and garbage without differentiation.

Anyhow the Reuters article recaps the economic mess. I cherry picked the two quotes that are the "hope" aspect. Its not much but its something.

Reuters: More economic pain seen in 2009, but some hope too
"If there's any optimism, it's on the basis that stock markets recover in recessions..."

"I think we'll move ahead a bit in the new year and then stabilize for a while. Global policymakers are doing their utmost to ensure the recession doesn't degenerate into a deflationary malaise..."

The right sees politics as art is best as I can see it. This would explain the lack of thought and the tendency to devalue any careful investigations. They were always saying trust your gut and things like this. Trouble was even good art has a valid trained technique behind it, usually. What they really were had nothing to do with art, it had to do with belief, that the creator ( GOD) was on their side and would do for them and ignore the rest of us. Maybe , she did take care of them and threw the rest of us to the wolves? We'll see. Happy NY!!
