Cellular Reprogramming

Science Daily: Cellular reprogramming slows aging in mice
summary - Scientists have rolled back time for live mice through systemic cellular reprogramming, according to a new study. In mice carrying a mutation leading to premature aging, reprogramming of chemical marks in the genome, known as epigenetic marks, reduced many signs of aging in the mice and extended their lifespan on average from 18 weeks to 24.

Here's the infliction pt. in history where our species divides into two distinct groups once again. Homo Saipan ( us) and Homo Sapien Extendus) ( the wealthy and their heirs.) The treatments will be extremely expensive is my guess and only those with cash/assets need to apply because your Health Ins. isn't going to cover it. The result up ahead is a new species that lives a healthy life for 200+ yrs. the rest of us being reduced to cannon fodder for the Wars this species will consign us and our progeny. This new Aristocracy's ultimate reward will be the ability for you and your heirs to become part of this new race/species going forward. Obedience though will be required or this privilege will be rescinded.

The problem with altering the pattern is that it tends to make us sicker. We get lots of advancements, then more cancers or some crazy new disease. But, it would not surprise me that there are people already working on this as you say. A Buddhist teacher once said that if people lived longer than the 'normal' lifespan, they would be begging to die. Humanity will find out.

Do you remember the 70's Sci fi movie ZARDOZ? Sean Connery was the star in it and he played a rebel leader. In this futuristic dystopia, the Human race had split along these lines. The elite lived inside special domes and they had perfected a system that allowed them to be endlessly reborn so they had a kind of immortality, but the catch was just as the Buddhist teacher says they eventually go insane and find themselves begging for death. Needless, to say eventually one of them opens the door and lets Sean and his outside rogue humans in and they slaughter the immortals who seem pretty happy about it. I don't buy either idea. We've already lengthened our average lifespan in the 1st world anyway over the last two hundred yrs. In the 19th Century, the average American died at 48 yrs. By the 1960's that was up to 68 yrs. for men and 72 yrs. for women. Today it's 78 for men and 82 for women. Cures for dementia and Alzheimer's are on the horizon now so the mental part might be solved at least from the physical view pt. As for the mind and the soul? We'll see. If treatments are developed that lengthen people's lives by a factor of two you can bet some rich folks will try it out. It's coming and God only knows what that will mean?

Well, there already are at least two classes of people, monetarily speaking. One already lives utterly sheltered and protected from the other. Hey might as well live longer and enjoy that privilege.
