Voting Fiasco In 2016

As we Americans have so little interest in the voting process and only a fraction of the number of voters eligible to vote show up to do so, why not just eliminate voting completely. Seriously, isn't this what the GOP wants anyhow. We're practically at that point as it is. Americans take voting about as seriously as they take the need for diet, exercise, and stress reduction.

The Republic is failing, but isn't that what the royalists and Oligarchs want? It's just a matter of time before a Bonaparte or Mussolini type figure arrives claiming he'll save the day. Democracy is hard work and 'Mericans would rather just watch football and listen to their favorite Country and Western radio show then think. They want to leave that to "their" betters don't they? Seems like it. Most of them just don't want their lessors to do better and their "betters" will make sure of that. Jacksonian Democracy is over, Empire has arrived.

Considering what happened in 2000, another murky election with a dubious winner is certainly a likely possibility. The only way around that is with a convincing margin of victory. My suspicion is that the popular vote will go to the democrat and it will be another red state vs blue state affair with most of the southern and bread basket states going for Bush, Christie, Rubio, or possibly Cruz. But yes, you have to work at democracy, just like anything else that's good. The default is always about falling backwards, we are genetically programmed to do that. The GOP already has a good footing with that backwards fear based approach.
