The Market On Monday

Good morning. It is 44 degrees and sunny with clouds here in Upstate NY. The forecast has it going into the 60s later, a rather nice day. I hope you had an excellent holiday weekend. Many people gather the family together for the holidays. We had a restful and peaceful time. I indulged in one of my favorite foods, that would be ravioli. I rarely eat raviolis so why not on a holiday. They were delicious.

At 8:30 a.m. ET futures are slightly higher and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to open higher though some energy stocks might lag.

We are heading full bore into the heart of the first quarter earnings season. This is the telling week. So far the indexes have remained buoyant in the face of some results that fell short of what was desired. By Friday most of the weighty cards will be on the table and one suspects that any possible correction will become more apparent. On the other hand, we could be in for more gains too.
