The Market On Tuesday

Good morning. It is 14 degrees and getting sunny here in Upstate NY. We are into the middle part of Winter, the cold is back, and the light continues to creep back as well as we experience light similar to the amount of daylight in mid November. The inauguration hoopla is over leaving analysts to dissect the speeches, fashion, and tone of the extraordinary event. We were all surprised to hear Obama mention global warming and wonder what if anything this means. Is it simply lip service or does Obama start becoming a more effective president especially pertaining to the issue which is of prime importance for humanity.

At 8:10 a.m. E.T. futures are flat and the price of oil per barrel is slightly down. The market is poised to open flat.

The week continues to be about fourth quarter corporate earnings reports. So far the reports have been positive as the indexes are at highs not seen in over 5 years, actually pre-official recession levels. The question becomes will we see a retreat, new record highs, or the indexes remaining in their present range.

That is a good point. Right now it's still central as we know and not only that there is more oil exploration going on as America is poised to become the top oil producer in the world.
