News Practice

We are starting out with a roar here.

Following the news day in and day out is a practice in self control. You can look at articles objectively and read about how people throughout the world are getting on. Or you can read the daily atrocity list subjectively, thinking that what goes on in the world is happening to all of us including ourselves and that we are connected and affected. The latter can really swing your emotions as you know.

Personally I try to include elements of both objectivity and subjectivity. At the inner core we are connected, probably in many more ways than we can even imagine. What happens to you is very important to me. However we can literally observe that interconnection with some detachment and objectivity. This helps to keep some stress at bay.

Recently a very wise much older spiritual teacher told a group that the world was not anywhere near close to falling apart. That we had a lot of time, many many centuries to go...
