The Market On Friday

Good morning. It is sunny and cold here in Upstate NY. The roads are clear for the time being. We were fortunate in that NYC got 19 inches of snow Wednesday and Thursday and we got a pass, no snow at all. This is unusual. On my early morning walk I bumped into a dog walker with their 1 year old golden retriever. This dog was a complete sweetheart, golden retrievers are the sweethearts of the dog world. Let it be known far and wide.

At 8:20 a.m. futures are slightly up, the dollar is mixed, and oil is up.

Any second now the government will release its preliminary fourth quarter GDP numbers. One would suspect that this will be very salient data for today. Otherwise, corporations are presenting expected to above expected fourth quarter reports and investors are still tingly and warm on equities.

CNN: Stocks set for flat open ahead of GDP
Stocks are widely expected to continue edging higher for the time being, as more earnings surprise on the upside and the Federal Reserve's bond-buying plan continues to stoke investor optimism.

An advance reading on fourth-quarter U.S. gross domestic product is due before the market opens.

Oil for March delivery gained 11 cents to $85.75 a barrel.
