Wow, group dynamics! It seems like they are doing this for the joy of it. These birds are fully independent individuals who engage in mass ensemble flying. I wonder are there any theories about some Darwinian advantage? Kind of reminds me of the Human Pixel clips.

Maybe its possible that any one species when taken as a total group body like these birds is acting in a singular effort. There's our individual body and our group body. I like the way they divide and then reunite.
