I visited Alcatraz 2 yrs. ago. Always wanted to take the tour so I did. The Bird man was a murderous misfit and the Movie totally sanitized him. Once you read what he really was like he loses his Rebel appeal the Movie wrongly bestows on him. he was a psychopath his mother was a psychopath and his wife was a psychopath. Burt Lancaster though did a great job of playing him.
Interesting tour. Don't know anything about the guy. They talk about someone who avenged his girl friend's beating with a murder, not the best tactic, and then fell into sadistic hands in prison, sadistic guards.
Na he was a serial killer a serious nut job. Let's not double down on this guy. We see him through the eyes of Hollyweird and the 60's mentality about prisons etc. He should have been hung or gased or electroed.
