Dust It Off

Obama speaking before the Business Roundtable was surprisingly optimistic about the economy.

He essentially paraphrased the old Chinese saying - optimistic in times of famine and pessimistic in times of plenty.

Everything is relative.

We are dazed by the plunge in the markets and the severity of the layoffs. We almost expect it.

So clearly Obama has made a calculated change in the tone of his approach to the economy. He is borrowing from the George Bush - Dick Cheney its all getting better in Iraq routine.

We are not so convinced.

Yahoo: Obama confronts Dem skepticism on economic plans
"I don't think things are ever as good as they say, or ever as bad as they say," Obama added. "Things two years ago were not as good as we thought because there were a lot of underlying weaknesses in the economy. They're not as bad as we think they are now."
