Mueller has deftly turned the heat down on himself by allowing Trumpenstein to catch his breath and believe if he wants to that he's not in the bullseye. Notice it's a witch hunt when he's worried and sweating bullets but it's not a witch hunt when Mueller seems to back off. Trumpenstein wants it both ways but sooner or later he'll have to choose.

Hard for me to make sense of this. I'm reading articles, just like you, some implying that it's just mincing words, some that it could change to Trump being a target rather than a subject. What I do like is that Rachel pointed out that the investigation doesn't end if Mueller is fired.
