Isn't this just a polite way of saying racism?

Yes, it is. What you have is a deep sense of entitlement among a mostly white minority that is slowly losing it's power and has decided if it can't stay on top by playing by the rules then the goal posts need to be moved so they can stay there. Increasingly , they are also prepared to get violent about as they did in 1861. Back at that time the same fear existed and many whites felt if the black slaves were freed they would be over run by them. So, they set upon reducing these people back into penniless peasants who were little more then slaves and they wrote the laws to keep them there for 100 yrs with the help of many people in the North. In essence, the North might have preserved the Union but the Sout as a price for peace demanded it be a white Union. Today's split still reflects this struggle for dominance.

We're right back where we started from. We have the 'real' people, the central cultural and moral 'normal' and then there's everybody else who are simply subordinates, decorations, and most definitely inferior. It's curious listening to Elon Musk who fears that the dominating force will be digital super computers that possess a type of self awareness. That's like projecting the present immorality of the Trump cult onto machines. I guess as long as there are humans who have some confused need for being superior and gifted from god as the right wing x-tians believes, we will exist in this type of atmosphere with the struggle for control and power always in the forefront and background. How disappointing that Trump who is the epitome of self appointed privilege, egoism, shamelessness, absent of awareness, humility, wisdom, even knowledge, is the ruler of the world at this period in time.

I see this fear all over sci fi. Your right the fear of being overtaken by machine Intell. ( AI) is just a variant of the racial fear syndrome. The truth is science tells us that we are all the same species under the skin that we are all just a few degrees of separation away from each other that a Hutu and a Hungarian are blood brothers when it's all said and done.
