According to Ilyin, liberation would arise not from understanding history, but from eliminating it. (sound familiar)
His imagination was soon captured by Benito Mussolini’s March on Rome, the coup d’état that brought the world’s first fascist regime. Ilyin was convinced that bold gestures by bold men could begin to undo the flawed character of existence.
The only way to prevent the spread of evil was to crush middle classes, eradicate their civil society, and transform their individualist and universalist understanding of law into a consciousness of national submission.
...a spirit of murder replaces a spirit of mercy.

Ilyin's philosophy fits in perfectly with the Hard right wing oriented Christian fundamentalism / Calvinism of the American right. Both , groups have a deep antipathy towards democracy and the rule of law preferring a religious State mix married to a Strong man regime. Ilyin's dark dystopian vision is decidedly more totalitarian then even the most ardent American evangelical and is more like Nazism without the racism. The rule of Franseco Franco the Spanish Fascist Dictator in Spain is an apt model. Ilyin was also a Monarchist like Franco and after Franco died the King came back into power in Spain and turned the country oddly toward a Constitutional democracy which it is today. IILin wouldn't have approved nor would have Franco. Russia has a New King the Dictator Putin. America has a fledgling Dictator faux Strong man DJTrumPutin.
Trump's star is waning. This shitshow has hit a huge snag. Not so fast with the full out right wing christo-fascist stuff just yet. But, I wasn not aware of Ilyin and I appreciate you pointing him out to me.
