Self Healing Materials

Science Daily: Materials may lead to self-healing smartphones
Taking a cue from the Marvel Universe, researchers report that they have developed a self-healing polymeric material with an eye toward electronics and soft robotics that can repair themselves. The material is stretchable and transparent, conducts ions to generate current and could one day help your broken smartphone go back together again.

An earlier version of this concept were the self-sealing gas tanks in WW2 fighter planes. The japanese failed to add this feature to its planes until near the end of the war and it cost them the lives of many of its best pilots.

Interesting, I'm beginning to study the wars, so much technology comes from them. It's so ironic, out of severe human degradation and violence comes advancement.
