The Market On Thursday

Good morning. It is 69 degrees and sunny here in the Upper Hudson Valley. The forecast predicts a sunny day with temperatures hitting the high 80s this afternoon. I have finally dusted off and brought out the short pants, I'm going with it. Looking through the CNN headlines this morning is something akin to looking at a horror show/nightmare. Trump has fessed up to using different aliases, duh. Terrorism is being promised, emails are being eviscerated, and generally speaking the world is looking as confused as ever.

At 9:00 a.m. ET futures are moderately higher and the price of oil per barrel is up. The market is poised to open higher.

Checking data just a few minutes ago before 9 a.m., the price of oil was at $50.04 a barrel. That is the highest I've seen oil in well over half a year. I'm reading that volatility for oil is still expected so this price will not hold allegedly, and yet once the $50 range is breached, oil might find a new home in the $50 to $55 range. We will indeed see but gas is going to be pricier and Obama has nothing to do with it and never did, and you can indeed take that to the bank.

U.S. crude rose Thursday to trade just a few cents above $50 per barrel.
