The Market On Tuesday

Good morning. It is 53 degrees and raining here in the Upper Hudson Valley. Beyond today the forecast has a lot of sunshine for the week. I have yet to read the story about the al Qaeda double agent, and I look forward to it. Sounds like the movie version is probably coming the future. Maybe I'll wait for the movie...

At 8:45 a.m. ET futures are modestly lower and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to open lower.

The market continues to sputter in the last two weeks of September and before second quarter corporate results come out in October. Meanwhile a Fed meeting is certain to get investors' attention and the market will respond in kind after tomorrow. Reports on income, poverty, and inflation might affect today's market direction.

Policymakers at the U.S. Federal Reserve start a two-day meeting. Fed chair Janet Yellen will deliver her latest assessment of the economy and plans for policy on Wednesday after the meeting is over.
