The Market On Thursday

Good morning. It is 54 degrees and cloudy here in the Upper Hudson Valley. Rain is expected today. We see that civilians were killed in the strikes against ISIS. We can't say we did not know this would happen, yet somehow we still wish that war could be contained to the combatants alone.

At 8:50 a.m. futures are modestly lower and the price of oil per barrel is up. The market is poised to open lower.

I just read that the weekly first time layoff number is at 293,000 and this is regarded as good. Also there is optimism that the job market is 'stabilizing'. That's the good news. Beyond that with the dollar strengthening against world currencies, it looks like the market could be in for a choppy day.
