The Market On Thursday

Good morning. It is a cool 48 degrees and cloudy here in the Upper Hudson Valley. The weather logo predicts sunshine, perhaps the fogginess needs to burn off. Quite a day already and it's starting off with a bang. We see that Australia thwarted a terror attack, Rob Ford has aggressive cancer, the Kansas senate race is looking strong for the independent candidate, and Scotland is voting on independence from England. Hold on to your hats, the world is percolating.

At 8:30 a.m. futures are modestly higher and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to open higher.

The Fed delivered the right news on Wednesday with a call for keeping interest rates incredibly low even after q.e. wraps up. Also I just read that the weekly first time layoff numbers have dropped to 280,000 which is relatively good news. It could turn out that the DOW is in for another new record high before the day ends, it's possible.

CNN: Stocks: 5 things to know before the open
The Dow closed at a new high of 17,157 Wednesday after the head of the Federal Reserve, Janet Yellen, said interest rates would stay low for a "considerable time" after its bond-buying program wraps up.
