The Market On Monday

Good morning. It is 16 degrees and sunny here in Upstate NY. The weather logos promise a week of warming temperatures with next Monday allegedly hitting the 60s. I'll believe it when I see it. Most everyone around here has had it with the cold. Meanwhile the relentless Winter of '14 continues, unabated.

At 8:40 a.m. ET futures are modestly higher and the price of oil per barrel is slightly up. The market is poised to open slightly higher.

I am reading that the overall mood of the market today is neutral. I've read that many times before and do not trust it. On the days when stagnation is predicted you often get big swings. Several initial public offerings are coming up this week. It's hard to get involved with those if you are a small time investor, on the other hand, the unproven nature of the IPO is volatile so why bother.

The company behind the popular Candy Crush Saga online game is one of 14 companies set to go public this week.

There's little economic or corporate news on the docket Monday that could influence market sentiment.
