God forbid they should bring up Marx. The minute u do that your grant goes away and you can forget ever getting your PHD. You can only be a Marxist in a Western University after you get a PHD and then once you have tenure.

The world economy is in a strict hierarchical structure managed by the very few. Imagining an alternate economy is like imagining an earthly utopia, it's the stuff of literature and imagination but without any realistic tangible component. Probably everybody should read at least some of Marx's work if only to gain a little perspective on the mechanism that we are all so entangled in. I think UMass had several Marxists or people who were versed in it at one time. I have no idea what is out there right now in Universities.

Don't know about Marx, like you say, just the mention...

People should be looking at the benefits of the labor movement and the GI bill. Those policies and the benefits they bring have been gradually erased by money influencing policy in a very understandable way.

Money looks to benefit itself, as we all do, it's natural. So just like minorities have to be protected, the middle and lower classes have to be protected from this inbuilt mechanism which naturally warps toward inequality.

Although these economist kids are out there on the distant planet of academia, they may write a forceful paper that could have some influence. I hope so.
