The Market On Monday

Good morning. It is 47 degrees and sorta clearing from fogginess here in Upstate NY. And no I am not talking about myself, talking about the weather. It's the last day of September and now the real burr months start coming - Octo-burr etc. I hope you had a good weekend. Mine was exceptionally good. Nice performance on Saturday, I really enjoyed playing the guitar and enjoyed seeing some old friends and comrades. I gotta do that more often.

At 8:15 a.m. futures are significantly down and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to flat out tank at the opening bell.

I really just can't contain myself right here. Blame all of this market mess today squarely on the pointy little half-wit thick as a brick headed extremist cult now know at the G.O.Tea. Congress is in the hands of lunatics, actually that's being to kind. They are way beyond lunatics, these people rival any cult mess religious or otherwise that the world has ever produced. They are in that league. Please G.O.Tea leave the US, form a separate Red US in the red states and leave the rest of us alone and out of reach of your misery. I'll help pay for it too.

The GOTea is doing an amazing job of alienating the entire country. Can any of us recall such willful block headed obtuseness coming from the GOTea? Probably not in their present incarnation, but back in the 90s it was Newt who proudly held the block head mantle. Obviously the GOTea Congress is going to utilize this government shutdown card at every debt ceiling increase junction. It would nice to see these people out of work come November 2014.

Good morning. It is 43 degrees and foggy here in Upstate NY. The weather logo is promising rain. Up early here on the weekend, the new dog wakes me up every day in the wee of the morning, she politely nudges her snout into my face while I'm sleeping. It's a little startling. I do indeed understand because when you gotta go, you gotta go. The Fall changes are taking place. The vibrant green-ness is draining away from all vegetation and the rusty colors of Fall are becoming more evident. Later this month we start with the raking. Pema's Advice

There’s no way to make a dreadful situation pretty. But we can use the pain of it to recognize our sameness with other people. Shantideva said that since all sentient beings suffer from strong, conflicting emotions, and all sentient beings get what they don’t want and can’t hold on to what they do want, and all sentient beings have physical distress, why am I making such a big deal about just me? Since we’re all in this together, why am I making such a big deal about myself? Whatever usually drags us down and causes us to withdraw into ourselves is actually the stepping-stone for awakening our compassion and for contacting the vast, unbiased mind of the warrior.

Good morning. It is 42 degrees and sunny here in Upstate NY. The forecast logo is showing sunshine through the day and that is great news for people who might be working on renovating their garages. It has occurred to me that one area of human thought that is not useful is in the area of the damning thought. That would be the decision that we all make that either damns a human being to hell as it were or damns ourselves into the ultimate belief that we can't do something be it a challenge or what have you. The damning thought is a dark space that blots out light and lordy lordy knows if there was ever a time for light now is the time. So take a look at those damning thoughts and let them go.

'Hating Breitbart'

trailer - curious movie on the work of Andrew Breitbart. It is a pro-Breitbart movie and like many things that come from the right it shows nothing but fight and confrontation and virtually nothing about conservative policy. One would think that a movie on Brietbart the conservative would actually explore his ideology to some extent, the movie does not do this. Instead you will see lots of gotcha moments chalked up to Breitbart's corner of the ring. Is there hypocrisy on the left - yes..and...and. You leave the movie thinking of a guy who had a full steam head of anger surrounding "liberal media" but not much to say about policy. Ultimately it's more about his personality as a public figure and not much else - lots of angry persona and not any depth. The movie does him a disservice because unless he was nothing but a veneer and I doubt he was, that's what the movie gives you.

They had embedded code on every single page including pages with Buddhist prayers of all things. Such is our modern world. I have deleted all of it and now will start over with a much more modest goal in mind so that I can monitor the code every day. The web is crawling with these types of hackers, this site and all blogs get many hits all day long from hackers many if not most from Russia and former USSR places all trying to scam people onto their pornography. Where the hell are the internet police?

At 8:30 a.m. ET futures are slightly higher and the price of oil per barrel is slightly up. The market is poised to open in the flat to slightly higher area.

Good morning. It is 58 degrees and overcast here in Upstate NY. It's a little raw out there with windiness and the potential of rain in the air. The birds outside my window are chirping and sound pretty content, I'm happy to report. I was thinking about this game we all used to play when we were children. It's called 'Operation', remember that one. You would use tweezers to carefully remove internal "body parts" from the illustrated hapless figure. If your tweezers hit the edge of the body part cavity the light bulb would go off and you'd lose your turn, or something like that. Nice, you know, works on meticulous hand to eye coordination and would be a real challenge for some.
Which leads me to Ted Cruz for no particular reason. What is the deal with this guy? Is he the creepiest thing to slither out of Texas yet? I'm thinking yea. I just don't get it, he has a remarkable education and he's very articulate, but how can one add all that up and arrive at Ted Cruz? What screw in that guy's mind provokes such misery, boorishness, arrogance, greed, and contempt for humanity. Has he figured out how to make the big paycheck by putting on the robe of Tea Party king. It could be that really. Sometimes when an individual gets outstanding praise from a group of people then the praise goes directly to one's head so to speak. He is high on his popularity within his own little Tea Party micro world. The end result unfortunately is garbage which Ted is oblivious to.

Good morning and welcome to the weekend. It is 48 degrees and hazy with expected sunshine here in Upstate NY. This weekend it becomes official, Fall will be arriving on Sunday. I applaud the new Pope's call for mercy and understanding towards gays, abortion, and all of the hated issues that America's right wing is blathering and obsessed about. One wonders when the hatred for the new Pope will start coming out of our right-wing-nuts. The Pope is doing the correct thing, he is changing the culture by making a keystone shift in how people might think and feel about other human beings. The Market On Thursday

Good morning. It is 45 degrees and sunny here in Upstate NY. It looks like a gorgeous day is shaping up. This is good for me as I am rebuilding my garage and I lost some time with a few recent rainy days.

At 8:25 a.m. ET DOW futures are higher and the price of oil per barrel is up. The market is poised to open higher.

The investment world was surprised on Wednesday to learn that quantitative easing will continue as is. As a result the market is on a roll which is spilling over into today's opening. At its present rate the DOW is actually within distance of 16,000 - remarkable.

At 8:25 a.m. ET DOW futures are flat and the price of oil per barrel is up. The market is poised to open slightly higher.

Investors will be all ears later this afternoon as Bernanke will announce the probable beginning of quantitative easing tapering. The taper is in, it's like a tape worm, sort of. Anyhow, how will this effect us? I suspect but am not certain, that IRA's, investment accounts, 401k's and such will probably but not definitely slim down.

CNN: Stocks: It's taper time!
The central bank is scheduled to release a statement at 2 p.m. ET following the conclusion of its latest policy-making meeting. Fed chair Ben Bernanke will then hold a press conference at 2:30 p.m. to discuss the Fed's latest assessment of the economy and its plans for the future.

Floods

The Market On Tuesday

Good morning. It is 38 degrees and sunny here in Upstate NY. Yes, read those low numbers and weep, and also remember that it is still officially Summer. We've had another mass shooting, it's beyond tragic and it's hard to understand. I think that the basic problem lies in the overlay of violence that permeates America on so many levels. We live in a violent country where frustration, tension, anxiety, disappointment, struggle and all of that are very pronounced, very much felt. It's hard to find a degree of contentment, and happiness is found in tiny temporary amounts if at all. So the mass killings are just the top of that great unrest, anger, and disturbance. The mass killings are the cream of the heap of violence and why would it be any other way given the base of the heap. It's easy to point this out as you know, the hard part is disassembling it, and putting it back together with a greater degree of compassion and awareness. Easier said than done.

At 8:20 a.m. ET futures are flat and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to open in the flat to lower area.

Investors are back to pondering life without quantitative easing. A Fed meeting is on the burner and the results of the meeting are highly anticipated. Also today investors get a key metric on inflation and we know how terribly important this is. It's expensive out there and one wonders how an ordinary family can get by, food is too expensive, gas is too expensive, everything is too expensive. We are pricing ourselves into poverty and wages are pathetic.

The Market On Monday

Good morning. It is 54 degrees and ever so lightly raining here in Upstate NY. Waking up at 6:30 a.m. to take the dog out, as she sticks her face in my face while I'm sleeping and demands to be taken out, it's pretty dark out. Yes, Winter here we come, ready or not, and it's mostly not. I hope you had a good weekend, mine was very productive. I'll write more about it in the future, but this course from Coursera that I'm taking on monetary policy is fascinating. Seriously this is stuff that anyone who is concerned about politics and the economy of the country needs to know at least some of. This professor knows his stuff and then some.

At 8:20 a.m. ET futures are significantly higher and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to open higher but one might suspect certain energy stocks may retreat.

Wall Street is bubbling with joy over Larry Summers withdrawing from consideration for the Fed job and the prospect of Janet Yellen taking the job. Yellen would probably want to continue with some QE activity which will keep interest rates super low. That's some cheap fun money.

Investors are excited at the prospect of Yellen taking over from current Fed chairman Ben Bernanke, since she is widely expected to pursue a similar policy of stimulating the economy to bring the unemployment rate down.
