The Market On Monday

Good morning. It is 55 degrees and sunny here in Upstate NY. I think last night was the first night I've slept with covers on in a long time. The heat has been relentless but now we are cooling off. What a weekend of crazy news. Where does one start? I have to say that Republican (and of course only a Republican would say such invective nonsense) U.S. Rep. Todd Akin "legitimate rape" claims on KTVI was the topper. Shame on you, you jerk.

At 8:10 a.m. futures are slightly lower, the dollar is mostly up against major world currencies, and the price of oil is up per barrel. Notice that oil is once again creeping towards the $100 per barrel mark. The market is poised to open in a mixed position.

The articles make the claim that we are into the lazy period on Wall Street. Many investors are on vacation, trading volumes are low, the economic reports are few, and the horrible expected news out of the eurozone along with some contraction news out of China is not prominent right now. That will change of course, I'm think it changes after Labor Day. Meanwhile enjoy the "back - to - school" vibe along with the pre-Fall vibe.

CNN: Stocks: Keeping a slow crawl going
...stocks at their highest levels in more than four years.

...many investors on vacation and little news out of Europe.
