It's never been about LIFE per se. It's been all about women's role in society. The Right sees women in a very narrow frame always has. Mothers and daughters. That's it. It all flows from child bearing. This is their primary function and anything else is seen as a negative abbe-ration from their "natural and divine" function.

Great article http://www.commondreams.org/view/2012/08/28-8 that speaks directly to this issue.

Good article - this quote is killer:

"Women are among an array of objects to be used. The refrigerator is for storing food. The bookshelf is for holding books. The woman is for making babies. You no more give her a choice in the matter than you would give your refrigerator veto power over what food it hold because it didn’t like your method of shopping."

Remember, in the creation story western society is built on EVE is fashioned out of Adam's rib and ADAM is created from dust by GOD HIMSELF! ! Mother nature is written out of this story because to allow HER to birth both would put women at the center of the story. This kind of radical patriarchal religious view is NO accident. So, given that @ the very center of this whole society sits this kind of utter nonsense, whose surprised that G. od's O.nly P. arty sticks rigidly and unapologetic-ally to the PARTY line?
