These guys are playing nylon strings, and LaGrene plays steel?
These guys are playing on "gypsy jazz guitars" that have steel strings. The formula for a gypsy jazz guitar is often very light gauge steel strings and a very heavy pick. Bireli uses the same general formula as far as I know.
