He's Dead

Americans are celebrating Bin Laden's death. I have read the line that Americans are rejoicing.

A lot of good things in America changed after 9-11, and they did not change for the better. The price of Bin Laden's death layered the day to day activity in this country with more fear, more surveillance, more suspicion, scary government behavior. The price is too steep.

Let's face it, we now have Christian preachers out there burning Korans, FOX News, Obama being painted as a terrorist, ground zero Muslim cultural center uproars, etc etc etc. Its pretty ugly.

I am puzzled to learn that he was buried at sea. Why?

Also, last night I read conflicting stories about his death. Last night I read on FOX News that Bin Laden was killed a week ago and that he was killed in an explosion. Why would that news agency write that?

CNN: U.S. forces kill elusive terror figure Osama bin Laden in Pakistan
Bin Laden's body was later buried at sea...

A congressional source familiar with the operation said bin Laden was shot in the head.

On Friday morning-- even as he visited Alabama's tornado-ravaged areas -- Obama gave the order for the mission...

Ten yrs. that have forever changed America. The price for his death has been way to high in so many ways. It's an irony that he will possibly eventually be even more dangerous in death. It could be argued that this man with a few box cutters and 19 other Saudis forever changed America and the west and not for the better. I know in my own life he cost me my job and altered my life ( not for the better.) He changed America from a proud prosperous country into a fearful depressed and declining Empire. A country embroiled in 3 Arab wars and at odds with 1.5 billion Muslims. Bin Laden gave us the Dept. of Homeland Security a horrorifying dark blot on the Constitution and with it the freedom and liberty destroying so called Patriot act. Our Pres. now orders Wars on a whim and tortures and imprisions anyone he feels is a threat to the country foreign or domestic. Habeas Corpus has been suspended and the Gov't spies on its own citizens. We have a plutocracy now that owns everything of value and keeps millions idle to keep control of its own people. Its bad and getting worse. So you'll excuse me if I have a bittersweet reaction to the death of this one man. Its like hearing of the death of Cochise, Geronimo or Crazy Horse. Bin Laden hated us but not because of our freedom he hated us because he was fighting for his way of life. What he did was an assault on us but it was hardly an act of war. Terrorism is the weapon of the weak and the desperate not the strong. Bin Laden and his small band though understood how you had to fight an Empire and they did it effectually. His goal was to embroil us in a War with Islam and he's done that. His other goal was to bankrupt us the way he did the ex-Soviet Union after they attacked and invaded Afghanistan in the 80's. He's also almost done that. So he might be dead but in a way it doesn't really matter does it? For Bin Laden it's Mission Accomplished X's 100! Lest we forget, we were also his patron back then, That's right Ronald Reagan gave Binny his start. So, lets not forget who gave this monster his start it was us. In the end we might have killed the man, but its much harder to kill the ideas and beliefs he represented isn't it? So, I'll defer from much celebrating today as it's been said, "revenge is meal best eaten cold."

That sums up quite a bit.

The Patriot Act, neocons, Iraq, Afghanistan, increased military spending, surveillance, Homeland Security, air travel restriction, no fly lists, torture, Gitmo, end of habeus corpous, anti-Muslim Christians, economic catastrophe, thankless victims who cleaned up after 911 and are now sick....

What a decade...

I agree Glenn. Well said.
But it had to come eventually. I'm glad it finally happened, but I'm embarrassed at people dancing in the street in front of the Whitehouse.

I agree Ed. Considering as I said, the price for this one man's death was ruinous for millions, maybe 10X's of millions. Plus, its not over, three wars a class war here raging and a ruined World economy can be laid at the feet of the men who for profit / greed purposely and deliberately used this evil man's acts to forward their own evil agendas. We live in Bin Laden's / BV$h's world now and its NOT a better saner safer place.
