Vegetarian Diet And Cancer

Interesting article from the BBC on a study showing how cancers affect vegetarians and meat eaters.

Its not a simple correlation, generally vegetarians tracked better, meaning they were less likely to develop the disease. But the study gets into specific forms of the disease and the correlation changes with each form.

BBC: Vegetarians 'avoid more cancers'
The study (involved) 60,000 people...

... 33 people in 100 will develop cancer during their lifetime, for those who do not eat meat that risk is reduced to about 29 in 100.

The vegetarians in the group in fact had a slightly higher rate of cancers of the colon and the rectum, although not significantly so.
