Siemens

Continuing with investigating the companies involved with wind power, we come to Siemens. Siemens is involved with all kinds and areas of wind turbines - design, manufacture, installation, planning, and all. They are all over the place - worldwide, huge.

A blurb about one of their several turbine models - SWT-1.3-62 Wind Turbine
Rotor
The rotor of the SWT-1.3-62 turbine is a three-blade cantilevered construction, mounted upwind of the tower.

Blades
The blades are made of fiberglass-reinforced epoxy resin and are manufactured by Siemens in a single operation, using our patented IntegralBlade® process. No glue joints between spars and shells, no weak points, no easy access for water or lightning.

Operation
The turbine operates automatically under all wind conditions. When the wind speed increases from calm, the turbine will self-start at about 4 m/s average wind speed. The small generator winding remains connected to the grid up to approximately 7 m/s wind speed. At higher wind speeds, the generator switches to the main winding.
