Invested

Listening to the local liberal radio media today, there was mention of the obstacles that are preventing the USA from going after alternative energy big time.

A lot of the blame is placed on the corporations, oil, auto, etc. Blame is placed on an administration that is all too ready and happy to comply with the aforementioned corporations.

The corporations hold so much power, they pay billions to lobbyists. Politicians (and think tanks) are all too happy to get in on the money.

Prowling around the internet yesterday, I looked at the British Petroleum website.

I followed the links for investors, and came across the North America Direct Access Plan.

Here you can buy BP stock online, without a fee. Although I do understand that when you sell there is a fee.

I've known about this investment practice for some time but finally took the time to look it over.

Let me throw out there a very simple idea about why the USA is not charging after alternative energy sources (ethanol is not what I'm talking about) like wind, solar, and methane.

Its simply because we are all completely invested in energy companies. 401Ks, IRAs, mutual funds, etc, all of that is invested at least somewhat in oil and energy.

We don't hear about this particular point as being the reason why the brake is on, but let's face it, that's where everybody's money is. Its that simple. The power of money is invested in the thing that is at the heart of so many issues.
