Excellent piece!! I've been feeling a deep sense of despair about all of this lately. I fear the country is falling toward a kind of slow motion Cultural Civil War like the English did in the 16th Century during the rule of the Stuarts and then the short lived Republic. Trumpf's election deepened the divide & put a bright boundary around our differences. It's also empowered the most violence prone among us to march about openly armed threatening and menacing everyone they hate and want driven from the land and even killed. It's also eliciting a deeply defensive reaction among many of us. If being against the klan and the Nazis mean I'm among the so called Antifa ( anti-fascists) so be it. Personally, I think the only way you deal with these scumbags is to hammer them flat. Apparently, millions of deaths a generation ago didn't do the whole job it seems. I pray we don't have to do it over again and this time in this country , but it's more and more like it every day.

Charles M. Blow is a very good writer for the Times. I look forward to his work. I don't know how this all ends up, I'm like everyone else. I go about my business with as much attention as I can, we still have to take care of our responsibilities. There's tension in the country, no question about it. I think the violent end of the population is small but certainly dangerous. If Mueller does in fact go in for the kill, I suspect many Trump supporters will fold with him. The dangerous element will not, of course, they've always been there though, Trump gave them a boost. It's also about where you live. People in deep red areas are going to be more one way, liberal areas another. The country is divided, it's worse than ever.
