The Market On Friday

Good morning. It is 31 degrees and overcast here in the Upper Hudson Valley. The forecast is indicating that the temperature will go into the 40s this afternoon. I did not watch any of the GOP debate. I already know the gist of it, lots of proud chest thumping posturing tough guy talk, lots of fear mongering, no explanation of policy on any important issue, and a lot of preposterous and inaccurate presumptions. Summing it up one could say it is an incomprehensible two hour mess. At this point the GOP is no longer functioning as a coherent party, it is an insurgent radical war machine hellbent on destruction and the bizarre.

At 9:00 a.m. ET futures are significantly down and the price of oil is significantly lower. The market is poised to tank at the opening bell.

We look at market data every morning and all I can say is, this is about as bad as it gets. So, millions of portfolios are losing equity value today and remember that the stock market must fluctuate. This is the game.

CNN: Stocks poised for losses as China markets and oil plunge
Oil below $30: Crude oil futures remain as volatile as ever, and are down nearly 5% -- crashing below $30 in morning trading.
