The Ocean's are warming as a result of global warming. It's quite simple actually as the earth absorbs and retains more heat from the sun because of the increasing blanket of CO2 the oceans's act as our primary heat sink. We can expect more and more changes in how the ocean's react to this added energy. Is the blob a direct result of this heating? Probably. Does changes in ocean circulation effect climate and weather, absolutely. Were the last two miserable winters and cold springs and summers in the NE caused by these changes. Most likely. Will things stay this way? Maybe.
