The Market On Thursday

Good morning. As I am running very late today I'm skipping the small talk.

At 8:50 a.m. ET futures are flat and the price of oil per barrel is down. The market is poised to open lower.

I get the sense that two major things are affecting mood this morning. The first is the Fed announcement on continued quantitative easing which did not do the trick for investors. Second is the lack of detail on how the shutdown has affected the US economy. Add it up and we are flat and headed nowhere in the a.m. Also there is a sense that job growth in October was nowhere and that is no wonder considering the GOTea shut it all down.

But some investors had hoped the Fed would adopt a more dovish tone in its statement.

There were also expectations that the central bank would be more explicit as to the impact of the recent government shutdown on economic growth.
