Russian Outrage

The Russian punk band - 'Pussy Riot' performs 'Punk Prayer'

The song is utterly horrible, in my opinion, and it caused great distress among the Russian powers that be mostly for its anti-Putin message. Consequently band members were arrested and face up to 7 years in jail for hooliganism. Although I am not fond of the song, I do like the manner and method of protest. There is something admirably poignant in all this.

The one thing all authoritarian states cannot abide is creativity in their artists. Were not much better on that score.

Yes I would agree. As we know at one time rock was very much in the foreground of protest especially during Vietnam.

Now, it's all about how much body a female singer can show off and in how many different ways.

Most present rock is totally diluted. Even the sounds which is something I'm very tuned in on, are not innovative.

Rock today is as you say not very innovative, it's if anything almost totally derivative at this juncture. Funny how that word keeps popping up more and more isn't it? IMO Rock is tired and ready to be swept away the same way Swing and Jazz based music was at the beginning of the 50's. What will replace it? I'm looking more and more at the so called "Indie" acts out here for new sounds and ideas. Check out a band called "Of Men and Monsters" ( the song is Little Talks) for one and another one called "Walk the Moon" ( the song is Ana Sun.) Both sound like a new generation of artists is rising from this scene. The other place where new sounds can be heard are the "newer" Country acts. I don't have any specific bands or songs here as I only listen to this music occasionally.

I like Of Men And Monsters. I will post more of their work in the future too. Love her voice.
