This version showcases the Eagles phenomenal precision. In order to appreciate it - and I do - I separate the message from the messenger. Henley and Frey ruled with an 'all business' approach and this perfect performance is accompanied by a joylessness. And I never hear this tune without hearing and picturing Don Felder, the guy they canned who is responsible for this song.; 9:45 AM
Jim Sande said...: You know a lot more about the band and its inner workings than I do. I don't really know anything about them. I know that bands that have produced these types of global anthem songs make a point of reproducing them in exact detail. They crank this thing out just like this every night for years. Joyless, could very well be, I would suggest they're bored out of their minds. I felt bored out of my mind playing the same tunes on weekends way beck when. It was really the crowd and the people that brought the joy and the energy.; 12:40 PM

In this Eagles case - and other global anthems - I think you're better off not knowing or caring about history or personalities or any inner workings. It frees you up to allow the music to come to you unadulterated.; 9:48 PM
