Andy Salvanos

Suppose you had never seen the work of a visual artist like, oh let's say, Matisse. Matisse has been there all this time but for some reason, you just never got to see his work. When you finally did see it, you were knocked out because, well, it's beautiful. You thought how could I have missed this. The good news is that from here on out, you've got a connection with Matisse.

Now jump ahead to Andy Salvanos. It's the same thing. You might not be familiar with Andy's music, I was not, maybe someone reading this is familiar and kudos to you, but now you're reading this and I'm telling you straight up, listen to Andy Salvanos.

Andy Salvanos is a musician's musician and a musician for anyone and everyone else. Andy performs on the Chapman Stick, a ten stringed electric instrument that makes sounds through tapping its strings with both hands. Yes, it's complex, but to play it masterfully and to compose gorgeous music on it, that is rare. The thing is you'll listen to Andy's work and you will forget about the instrument anyhow. When the music itself somehow transcends the instrument, you've been effortlessly transported, you've been moved just like when we say that movie, or poem, or speech, moved me.

I'll take a stab at describing Andy's music. I could say it's ambient, inviting, lyrical as all heck, thoughtfully composed, modern and interesting in the sense of his use of digital delay and electronics. But here's the thing, this music is warm, think warmth, heartfelt, it's singularly sane, unique to Andy, it's whole and simultaneously delicately refined, not aggressive but powerful.

There you have it. I skipped over some of the details because Andy's already got a nice bio that I included at the bottom of this post. Yes, he lives in Australia so click the embedded posts already.
