I don't think it goes anywhere. Even if there is overwhelming proof of collusion, obstruction of Justice, money laundering etc et. al. Why? Because he's an R. If he was a D he'd already be in jail.

It's probably a good idea to resolve for the least or worst outcome and then to feel surprise if something better happens. Trump is under great pressure with Mueller. There are more than likely forces going on under the radar, it's hard to say where it will go.
