The Market On Monday

Good morning. It is 38 degrees and overcast here in the Upper Hudson Valley. Looking ahead the forecast is indicating a few days of rain and then the temperature goes up near 70 degrees on Thursday. Yup, that's a little weird. I hope you had a good weekend. Perhaps you did some gift shopping or went to a party or two, or maybe you just relaxed at home. It's all fine. We had a good weekend, went to a lovely party on Friday. I have come to the realization that around this time of year it makes no sense to try to restrain the diet. Just go for it and enjoy it.

At 8:50 a.m. ET futures are significantly higher and the price of oil per barrel is now just above $34. The market is poised to open higher.

Star wars is raking in the money and Disney's stock is responding proportionately. I was never a big fan of the series, I mean, it's okay and I do enjoy the references to mythology. They are saying that today represents a 'Santa Claus' rally. It will be a short week and hopefully the markets can remain stable and not too excitable.

CNN: Stocks: 3 things to know before the open
Shares in Disney are rising by about 2% premarket after its movie -- "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" -- had the biggest opening in box office history.
