The MJQ are sort of a genre to themselves. That kind of restrained cool jazz loved in Europe. There's a Jazz spectrum I guess, but the MJQ are so solid and stately, sure, comfortable in what they are doing, and so sensitive to it.
It's fun for me to re-listen to this music now. I'm appreciating the depth of musicianship and the strong ensemble sensibility. They were exceptionally good, very tasteful.

I think John Lewis is the best. One of the most tasteful piano players ever.
