Quake

That house shaking you might have experienced a few minutes ago was the after effects of a 5.8 magnitude earthquake in Virginia, or so I was told by the local news room. I'm sure more specifics will be out including corrections to the story.

That was weird. We felt it in Upstate NY.

From CNN:
Magnitude 5.8 earthquake shakes Virginia, D.C. and New York

It was very strongly felt here along the NJ Coast. My 80 yr. old house was shaking and rolling. I'd been in many a quake when I lived in Calif., but u don't expect such a thing here in NJ. Last time I felt one here it was a totally different experience. That one felt like a booming sound coming up from the ground and the house when up and then down and shook. I thought it was from either an explosion nearby or a sonic boom. Later on that day they said it was a rare earthquake from very deep in the earth.

We got a pretty good swaying for a few seconds here. It was very noticeable.

It lasted almost a minute and a half at my house. A gentle swaying. The pots rustled in the kitchen.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I was wondering if it was going to get worse. Everything was moving.
