Fasting

NPR: Intermittent fasting is as effective as counting calories, new study finds By Will Stone

"People usually eat within a 12-to-14-hour window, so all we're doing is cutting out around six hours," she says. "Mainly we're cutting out, I think, after-dinner snacks."

HOLD IT - Eating less food is a kind of "natural calorie restriction"? And that causes weight loss? That's amazing.

No, I get it. For those who count calories, we have continued research to determine that you can instead just restrict your active eating time and the effect is the same. But I coulda told y'all that without the decades of study. Just sayin' ;-)

Actually, I didn't know that. The big take-away for me was that a lot of the issue is about eating after dinner snacks.

Even when I know stuff, I welcome all the research that money can buy to better inform us.

'A calorie is a calorie' never made sense to me, ever. If you burn 2000/calories a day, you CAN sustain yourself with only vodka and donuts, but even Joe Blow knows that doesn't make sense. That's an extreme example to make a point ---->

AND hearing for decades "it doesn't matter when, as long as you consume proper amount of nutrition" also never made sense.
When I pay attention to my body and not the clock, I always have a better day. When dinner is naturally the smallest meal, I feel best. No research needed.

That sounds reasonable. I like to eat after dinner and I'm trying to cut back. The days that I do cut back, I feel the best. But you know, as we are about to touch a new decade, my body has taken a beating. It's many decades of hard labor. I have to work at it every day to maintain some flexibility and strength. I'm hoping I got 10 years left in me, but I may not.
