What's so sad about this man's life is he proved that timing is everything. Be too far ahead of your time or too far behind and your not likely to every enjoy the fruits of your labor. He was way too far ahead of his time and without real friends except his brother. If it wasn't for him and his sister in law we would know little to nothing today about him and his art would be lost.
Yeah, it's a tragic story. Apparently he was also much better looking than how he painted himself. He did this deliberately too. But his work is now priceless, he would be the richest man in the world, or one of them.
