Duh.
Yes.

It's always been this. And always will.
The grievance vote has never been more successfully exploited. At least in our lifetime.

Abbott, DeSantis, Stefanik and others are refining this 'technique' and upping the ante for '24. But we can thank Tr**p for blowing the doors off all pretense in '16.

The voters are "sheep" in that we humans are 99.9% creatures of gut and reaction. Logic and reason will always play second fiddle. Darned Homo Sapiens. Can't live with 'em, but can easily get them to vote against their own interests.

I may have mentioned this before, but I believe it was from reading Marie Louise van Franz where I got this one. The idea is that all of humanity is represented by a pyramid. The base of the pyramid is the broadest, the top comes to a point. To van Franz the base would be most people in the world, who live in more of a tribal way where individuality is not important, better to be part of the herd, group think, the sheeple. The top represents the few people who figure out how to transcend attachment, confusing emotions, ignorance etc. In between the pyramid narrows or broadens depending on which direction you're going in, top down or bottom up. The in between areas representing people who are rising towards the pinnacle so to speak - not quite there yet, not quite saints yet, but maybe somewhat compassionate, somewhat wise let's say. The model has been meaningful for me. Because the majority of people exist in the way that you describe.

She was a Jungian. That makes sense.
Yes, I also believe that the majority of us are tribal - most every minute of our lives. But I believe that those that exist at the top of the pyramid are especially aware of their tribal behaviors. The difference being awareness. Their compassion, wisdom, sainthood, etc. makes them perhaps less a slave to a reactionary lifestyle. For the rest of us - it's Festivus!

Yeah, that sounds good.

Her name is Marie Louse von Franz, not van Franz.

The same reason people clung to Hitler, Stalin and Mao, and other demagogues that gained power using grievance against others.
