Many Gulf coastal towns live a in delusional space were somehow they are allowed to build right up to the water's edge with no sea walls, dunes or anything else between them and the Gulf, which is a steaming hot bathtub in Hurricane season. This isn't going to be the last time this happens especially as the Oceans are all warming in an accelerating fashion and rising as they expand. Doesn't seem to matter people will go back and rebuild even bigger homes and businesses to replace what Ian has destroyed.

It's definitely not the last time this happens and unfortunately it will only get worse and more frequent. Warm the waters and all that energy feeds these hurricane. They had wins around 155 MPH, it's difficult to imagine the force of that AND they had water surges as high as telephone poles. People in central Florida thought they were protected, and they were not. Florida gets 600 new residents a day, it's the second to last place I want to live. Texas is first.
