It was PAINFUL to watch to the end. The glimmer of hope in the form of a hand written note reminds us that it's not all hate. This "flower in the rifle" symbol is beautiful and makes us feel better, but doesn't neutralize anything.
I felt differently, and it was painful, but for me the ending literally wiped away all that preceded. You just need one single powerful light to illuminate a large dark cave.
