Trump's idea was basically to pressure Zelensky behind the scenes into making a statement, all on his own without any prompting, saying that he, the Ukraine, was going to investigate Biden. This is why Trump keeps saying no quid pro quo. Trump was playing the hand of the godfather and making the same kind of demand as a quid pro quo under the table so to speak. This is damning for Trump.
