Roberts was a BV$H appointee NOT a Trumpster like Gorsuch or Kavanaugh and has shown to be occasionally Independent. Will he rule against the Orange menace? I think he might if he sees Mike Pence taking power like Ford did in 1974. It should be a very worrisome development though for Trumpf and could mean the GOP leadership consensus has had enough of Trumpf and is as worried as the Dems. about the idea of a Trumpf dominated DOJ. The appointment of Whitaker might have taken him over some invisible line in the sand they've drawn. Roberts public slap might be just a warning to Trumpf to back off or else.

As I have come to learn more and more about the underpinnings of liberalism and conservatism, and more about human nature, not all judges are truly the same. Robert Bley pointed out in Iron John, that Lincoln could have had an offending soldier who fell asleep on duty after being on duty for some two days straight, put to death. But upon hearing his mother's pleas came to understand the situation and let him go free. Now that's a rather wide swing in possible outcomes, death or set completely free especially since he was in his legal range to have him put to death. Temperament, a sense of humanity, a sense of perfect alignment to the law, there is wiggle room. The aspect of this public fight that I like, similar to you, is that this is a very internal GOP thing. Trump is of course, full of shit and once again baiting his army of followers, giving them reason to distrust, claim fake-ness, whatever. Trump is in deep shit, he knows it, he's trying to rig the system so that the likely barrage of charges coming his way, will be tainted and seen as suspect. I think he has achieved that goal to some degree, but in another way he has not. He is not completely a dictator as much as he wants to be one. I think his downfall at this point is inevitable. The size of the Democrats win was undeniable. The force of the country is moving against Trump. I would not be surprised to see the Dems take the presidency and the Senate in 2020.
