Yea, he might be right about most people even parts of his base know he's a joke, but sadly the joke is on us. Trumpf has surrounded himself with layers and layers of asskissers so he thinks he's loved by everyone but maybe CNN. This isn't going to end well and that's also no joke because my bet is a lot of people are going to get hurt and killed before it's over and even then it ends with another right-wing jerk like Pence or Ryan. The coming year could go in so many different directions none of us can even begin to guess the twists and turns right up ahead. NOTHING is normal about this situation NOTHING!
Yes, nothing is normal. If we reflect though we see that the resistance to Trump over the last year was stunning. Trump did not win over the country. He's trying but he's FOS. He is as you say vulgar. This next year is going to be riveting. Mueller can bring down Trump and that would be a decided shift in American politics.
